Richard Repp Work as a Student

1999

In 1999 I finished up my Doctorate at the University of Illinois and said goodby to the Electronic Music Studios there. I composed three mre Electroacoustic pieces before I left.

This piece was based on a few samples of an acoustic guitar processed with a Kurzweil K2000 keyboard, Sound Designer, and Hyperprism. The title is an homage to Jimi Hendrix, who used the guitar in unusual ways in his time.

The sounds were designed in the K2000 and I used Vision to sequence it.

1998

In 1998 I worked in the External LinkExperimental Music Studios at the University of Illinois. The work emphasized electro-acoustic music, including historical background, literature, techniques of notation and realization, and compositional application in the areas of musique concrete, classical electronic music, and voltage-controlled electronic music, advanced study in the use of synthesizers in music composition and study of compositional, technical, and performance considerations in combining electronics with traditional instruments and/or voices in music composition. Instructor: Scott Wyatt.

1997

I worked with sound synthesis using the LisP programming language at the External LinkComputer Music Project.

1996

In 1996 I said good-bye to my External LinkRoland GR-1 guitar synth with a guitar concert which also served as my exit project for the Music Technology sequence in my Master's degree.

1995

In 1995 I made some big changes in my music. I switched from Opcode's Vision to Mark of the Unicorn's Performer to do my sequencing. But the main difference in my work was Sound File using the Roland GR-1 Guitar synth (239 K) instead of a piano keyboard.

1994

In 1994 I started sequencing at the Illinois State University MIDI lab. Here I used the algorithmic sequencing capabilities of Vision to produce

Sound File some techno dance music (45 K).

I used sounds from the Proteus MPS+Orchestral and the Roland D-50 a lot that year to create a

1993

In 1993 I was using the MIDI lab at William Rainey Harper College to sequence my keyboard and drum tracks. Jody Rech gave me some technical assistance and helped me to add this Sound File mellow guitar lead to my sequences.

1992

In 1992 I was using a Fostex X-100 four track for recording.

I had a good time that year Sound Filetrading licks with Chris Frillmann. Inderjeet Sidhu added some tasty drum licks to the keyboard backgrounds I sequenced at William Rainey Harper College.
