Goal 1: The student will read, evaluate, and use written material.
Outcome: The student will demonstrate use of reference materials by locating information from a variety of sources.
Outcome: The student will demonstrate his/her ability to paraphrase and assimilate information from a variety of sources.
Goal 2: The student will write in a grammatical, well-organized manner.
Outcome: The student will write a well-organized paper presenting a thesis statement and supporting it with concrete examples from various sources.
Assignment: Given the prompt in Biology I, you are to write an expository paper of between 550-650 words using a minimum of three different referencematerials. The paper must contain a title page, the body of the paper (typed and double-spaced), and a bibliography. (see keyboarding rubric in appendix)

Procedure: Prompts will be given in Biology I. Time will be given during both Biology I and English class periods for using the library for the first two days. Time will be given in class for writing the paper. Rough drafts must be turned in for first evaluation on the date indicated. Time will be given in Computer class for keying of data.
Evaluation: This paper will be evaluated be three different teachers, each with their own set of criteria. The rubrics for English I will adhere to the FOSCI method and include the evaluation for the bibliography.
