During the Fall semester, we take one morning and bus all of our freshman to the Kickapoo Creek, for about three hours. While at the creek, we divide our students into groups. Every 30-40 minutes the groups change stations.
Stations include:
Math --Dissolved Oxygen/Volume of Water Per Day
English --Perception Writing (using their senses of sight, smell, hearing, and touch)
Biology --Water Organisms & Land Organisms Sampling
We bring back data to the classroom and spend several days debriefing and analyzing our data. Groups are about 14-15 students in size. The total time we are at the river is about three hours.
