Golf in the 1920's and the Bing Crosby Golf Tournament


In the 1920's golf became one of the most popular sports in the world.
Golf also became a public game, meaning it wasn't just for the rich anymore, it was for everyone. Public golf courses, which were generally owned by the local town, began to pop up all over the coutnry. Anyone in the town or county could play on the course for very little money. In addition, big golf tournaments were played for pride and respect not just for the money.

During the 1920's one of the most famous golf players rose to fame: Bing Crosby. He won many major tournaments during the 1920's. Because of his popularity and love of the sport, Crosby started the Crosby Golf Tournament. This tournament is still in existence today. In fact, it is now played on Pebble Beach Golf Course in California and all money involved in this tournament goes to charity.

The 1920's was the time when golf became very popular to every class of people. It was the start of a trend that still thrives today. A game full of pride and not money.
