Additional information about Lions

Lions are the members of the cat family whose power, size, and bearing have captured the imaginations of humans since the beginning of time. Lions can be found in Africa, south of the Sahara, and India. They were once found around the world, but due to human behavior, this is not true anymore. Since lions live in open areas, they are easily shot by hunters and herders. Lions are hunters themselves. They prey on almost anything that moves ranging from insects to giraffes, but they prefer large animals. However, the hunting is usually done by the females.

Lions are one of the largest cats in the world. They are relatively short-legged animals with long, muscular bodies and large heads. The mane can vary in color and length. Lions have hooked claws and wide, powerful jaws. The lion's roar can be heard up to nine kilometers away. Lions usually roar when they wake up, before they hunt, and after they have successfully hunted. Lions are also some of the most social animals. Their social organization is in units called prides. They are usually born into groups who hunt and raise their young together. They can catch and protect themselves better in groups. The prides will break up and rejoin, sometimes in different groups, many times.
