During the course of the past several years, teachers associated with the Illinois Alliance of Essential Schools and the CES Center at Chicago have contributed their time, energy, and expertise to further educational reform in schools across the State of Illinois. Over the past year, we have collected several examples of curriculum projects that have been developed by some of these schools and burned them onto a CD-ROM for distribution for dissemination throughout our schools. This has truly been a collaborative effort. The Center staff shares a deep commitment to education reform and the use of technology in the schools. Through long hours, technical glitches, and determination, we have attemped to provide some exemplary practices for your adaptation and use in your classroom.
We wish to acknowledge all the teachers, schools, districts, IAES Board of Directors and IAES personnel who have contributed to the creation of "Exemplary Practices in Action". A special thank you goes to Xavier Botana, Dyanne Alexander, and Paul Kren from the Illinois State Board of Education who have supported all of our efforts to further education reform throughout Illinois. The College of Education at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Campaign has contributed additional support in the operation of the IAES Center. Our schools have been fortunate to participate in the teacher.training@microsoft program sponsored by Microsoft Corporation. Through this program, our schools have received thousands of dollars of free software for training purposes. Many of these software programs were used to create the materials on this CD-ROM.
Thanks to Tom McGreal, Sandy Levin, Richard Repp, Jean Krysko, and Cathie Godwin from the IAES Center who have spent many hours collecting, identifying, reviewing, editing, photocopying and converting curriculum materials into HTML format for the CD-ROM production.
This CD-ROM would not have been possible if we did not have such dedicated teachers around the state who have implemented these and other curriculum materials in their classroom to help all students learn to use their minds well. Our teachers have used a wide variety of multimedia in the creation of these materials which include:
