Cost: 20 pounds sterling (NOTE: you may be able to claim this and your travelling expenses from your staff development office) CTI Music, in co-operation with the Music Department of the University of Durham, Nigel Morgan, Capedia, New Notations and others (to be confirmed) offers a unique opportunity to see and to compare the following Notation Software in the context of Music teaching in Higher Education. Composers Mosaic (Mac) Encore (Mac) Nightingale (Mac) NoteWriter (Mac) Sibelius (Archimedes) SCORE (IBM) These will all be demonstrated by knowledgeable users, providing a valuable opportunity to ask serious questions about teaching with notation software. This is NOT a sales exhibition! Because of the organisational costs and fees involved, advanced booking is essential and we are also obliged to make a small charge (past workshops for which we did not charge have suffered as a result of people failing to turn up after booking!) If interest in this event is too low, we shall have to cancel it, so PLEASE let us know SOON if you are at all interested in attending. In any case, your cheque should be with us by Monday 6 February. This will be regarded as a firm booking and will not be returnable unless the workshop is cancelled. Your cheque will not be banked until the day of the workshop - if we are obliged to cancel, we will return it to you. We hope that you will find this an interesting event and we look forward to seeing you in Durham on 17 February. X-List: cti-music@mailbase.ac.uk Reply-To: cpompili@metz.une.edu.au (Claudio Pompili) Sender: cti-music-request@mailbase.ac.uk Precedence: list I'm knew to this list and am looking for a precis of the situation in CAI for three main areas: Musicianship, Composition and Performanance. I am primarily interested in Mac based applications but would also entertain PC applications. In the first instance, I'm very interested in matters related to CAI in: ¥ aural training and sight singing (I'm thinking of Opcode's "Claire" application etc), ¥ music theory, and ¥ MIDI keyboard, wind and perhaps strings (do decent string MIDI controllers exist?) instruction (up to 'competent' levels) An overview of the tertiary institutions in the UK that employ the technology in a determined way and measures of success of the programmes (any pubished assessment materials of the positive effects of CAI in Music?) would also be appreciated. I am a composer who uses computers extensively (algorithmic comp, comp-asssted notation (Mac Finale) etc) . I'm primarily a composer of the 'score-driven' variety but have produced, and a continuing interest in, electronic music. I'm interested in establishing a Music Technology Centre for teaching and research purposes at my university. In the current climate, the thrust is to increase student numbers (preferably full-fee paying) and impement CAI as widely as possible in the areas of musicianship, composition (including popular MIDI usage) and performance.
