Capture/Recapture Sampling Project

 

QUESTION: How could a researcher determine the total number of animals in a certain area? For example, how many deer are in a forest, how many fish are in a lake, or how many seals are on an island?

 

OBJECTIVES:

 

MATH: LEARNER OUTCOMES:

  1. Students will be able to solve ratio problems. (LO 2B2)
  2. Students will be able to find the volume of right solids. (LO 3B2)
  3. Students will be able to collect, identify, and interpret data. (LO 6A1)
  4. Students will be able to analyze data and make predictions. (LO 6B3)
  5. Students will be able to construct tables, charts, and comparisons. (LO 6C1)

 

BIOLOGY: LEARNER OUTCOMES

The student will:

  1. find population sizes and densities from given data
  2. demonstrate the ability to draw conclusions from collected data.
  3. replicate an experiment.
  4. analyze the results of an experiment.
  5. identify possible sources errors in a scientific experiment.
  6. use models to interpret scientific phenomena.
  7. use the scientific method.
