Freshman Cross-Curricular Projects
First Six Weeks
- Project: Study Skills
- Classes: English, Algebra/Geometry I, Biology,
Keyboarding
- Description: During the first two weeks of school, emphasis
will be put on study skills in all classes in an effort to help
the student learn to utilize his/her study time effective
-
- Project:
Genealogy
Project
- Classes: Algebra/Geometry I, English, Biology
- Description: During this project students will read and
write autobiographies/biographies in English, study genetics in
biology, and study probability and scale drawing in
algebra/geometry. As a portion of this project, students will be
asked to interview someone in their family and write a biography
of them or to write an autobiography. They will also be asked to
reproduce a quilt block design and to make one of their own
relating to their own life.
Second Six Weeks
- Project:
Rivers Project
- Classes:: Algebra/Geometry I, Biology, English I,
Keyboarding
- Description: This project centers around the state
rivers project. As a part of this project, students will travel to
the Kickapoo creek to sample water and determine plant and animal
life in the area. Students will write about what they see, hear,
and feel while at the creek. When students return, they will
analyze their findings and determine the amount of water that
passes a certain spot on the river on the day of observation.
Students will then type a lab report of their findings in
keyboarding.
Third Six Weeks
- Project:
Capture/Recapture
- Classes: Biology, Algebra/Geometry I, Keyboarding
- Description: Students will study the capture/recapture
process for determining the number of animals in an area. They
will do a simulation of this process and write a report on the
project. The report will be typed in keyboarding.
Fourth Six Weeks
- Project: Scale Drawing Project
- Classes: Algebra/Geometry , Keyboarding
- Description: In this project, students will design a
container that holds a certain number of objects. They will make a
three-dimen- sional drawing of their container and type a report
about the project.
-
- Project:
Environment
- Classes: Biology, Algebra/Geometry I, Keyboarding
- Description: During this project the students will do
an energy audit in conjunction with CILCO (Central Illinois Light
Company) as well as studying the environment and writing a report.
They will also do a comparison of different types of light bulbs
and compare their cost and energy use.
Fifth Six Weeks
- Project:
Geometry
Spreadsheet Unit
- Classes: Algebra/Geometry I, Keyboarding
- Description: Students will design a spreadsheet to
calculate surface area and volume. They will then enter different
data into the spreadsheet in order to determine how the volume and
surface areas change as the original dimensions are doubled,
tripled, etc.. Students will then write a report that explains the
patterns that they see develop.
Sixth Six Weeks
- Project: Travel
- Classes: Algebra/Geometry I, Biology, English,
Keyboarding
- Description: Students will research a travel
destination, create a budget for travel using a spreadsheet,
create a travel brochure, and study uniform motion as parts of
this project.
